Sisterhood monthly donors are on a mission

Educating girls is an unparalleled way of addressing dangerous trajectories — from global warming, to food shortages, to violence against women. In the most vulnerable parts of the world, without your help, many girls will never reach their full potential, and instead are likely to suffer as child laborers and worse, child brides.

That’s where the Sisterhood and YOU come in.

Ignite the Multiplier Effect

Girls educated with CAMFED support grow up and become leaders — doctors, teachers, business owners, activists. And they then send 3 (or more!) girls to school.

New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristof of described CAMFED as the “perpetual motion machine.”

We call it the CAMFED Multiplier Effect.

Meet a few CAMFED graduates

Talent is a doctor, providing vital care to rural communities in Zimbabwe.

Dorcas leads a women’s co-operative of artisan basket weavers in Ghana.

Miriam is a sustainable agriculture expert, training women farmers in Malawi.

How does educating a girl help solve the world’s problems?

Girls’ education has the power to tackle the world’s most pressing challenges – and CAMFED has a revolutionary model for delivering on this promise.

Reduces Gender-Based Violence:

Education  increases women’s confidence, knowledge, networks, income potential, and control over their own bodies.

Combats Global Climate Change:

Educated girls can make choices that reduce carbon emissions, and become leaders in sustainable business, climate-smart agriculture and policy.

Reduces the Gender Poverty Gap:

Women who finish secondary school will earn 2x as much as those who never enter a classroom and will be 5x less likely to marry as children.

Advances Human Rights:

Greater gender equality leads to more just, stable, equitable and productive societies that protect human rights and invest in health and education.

Increases Food Security:

Because the majority of small farm holders are women, and the fact that education provides access to technology, land and financing, farm yields increase by 20% to 30%.

“Girls’ education may be the best and cheapest leverage we have to change the world.”

CAMFED (the Campaign for Female Education) was founded in 1993 with a powerful model of change that gives young women a hand up instead of a handout. Over 208,000 young educated women in our African Sisterhood are now leaders in their communities, lifting up the next generation.
